1st Muharram: A New Beginning in Islam

1st Muharram: A New Beginning in the Light of Islam

Introduction

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon His noble Messenger Muhammad ﷺ.

Today marks the beginning of a new Islamic year — the 1st of Muharram. While many cultures celebrate the new year with festivities, in Islam, the new year is a spiritual opportunity — a chance to reflect, repent, and renew our commitment to Allah ﷻ.

Muharram in the Qur’an and Hadith

“Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [in a year] in the register of Allah… of these, four are sacred.”
(Surah At-Tawbah 9:36)

Muharram is one of these four sacred months.

“The best fast after the month of Ramadan is in the month of Allah: Al-Muharram.”
(Sahih Muslim)

Significance of the 1st Day of Muharram

The 1st of Muharram is not just the first day of the Islamic calendar — it’s a spiritual reset button. It reminds us:

  • Time is passing quickly.
  • Our deeds are being recorded.
  • Every new year is one step closer to the Hereafter.

Instead of fireworks and parties, the 1st Muharram calls us to introspection, renewal of faith, and gratitude to Allah.

Muharram and the Legacy of Karbala

While the entire month of Muharram is sacred, it is also the month of Karbala — where the beloved grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, Imam Hussain (RA), stood against injustice and tyranny.

Though he was martyred on the 10th, his journey began on the 1st. This reminds us:

  • Islam is not just about rituals; it is about standing for truth.
  • Justice, sacrifice, and courage are core Islamic values.
  • The struggle of Karbala is not just history — it is a living message.

What Should We Do on 1st Muharram?

1. Self-Reflection and Repentance

Ask yourself:

  • How was my last year in terms of faith?
  • Did I improve in prayer, Qur’an, and character?
  • What sins am I still holding on to?

Seek forgiveness. Start fresh.

“O Allah, make this a year of goodness, faith, safety, and Islam.”

2. Make Good Intentions for the Year

Just like we set goals in the worldly calendar, set spiritual goals:

  • I will read Qur’an daily.
  • I will pray on time.
  • I will give more charity.
  • I will improve my character.
“Actions are judged by intentions…”
(Sahih Bukhari)

3. Fast in the Sacred Month

Fasting on any day in Muharram is highly rewarded. Begin the month with worship and fasting.

“Whoever fasts a day in the way of Allah, Allah will keep his face away from the Hellfire by seventy years.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

4. Remember the Ahl al-Bayt

Reflect on the sacrifice of Imam Hussain and ask yourself: Am I loyal to the message he gave his life for?

A Message to the Youth

Young Muslims! Let this year be your chance to rise. Be inspired by Imam Hussain:

  • Stand for truth, even if you’re alone.
  • Live with purpose, not just pleasure.
  • Represent Islam with pride, dignity, and knowledge.

Dua for the New Islamic Year

“O Allah, bring this year upon us with security, faith, safety, Islam, and Your pleasure. Protect us from Shaytan.”

Final Thoughts

The 1st of Muharram is a gentle reminder from Allah: “Your time is precious. Use it wisely.”

May this new Islamic year be full of barakah, forgiveness, growth, and nearness to Allah.

Ameen.

1st Muharram: Ek Nayi Shuruaat Islami Roshni Mein

1st Muharram: Ek Nayi Shuruaat Islami Roshni Mein

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem
Saari tareefein Allah ke liye hain jo saari duniya ka Paalnewala hai, aur darood-o-salaam ho Nabi Muhammad ﷺ par.

Aaj se ek naya Islami saal shuru ho raha hai — 1st Muharram. Duniya ke kai culture naye saal ko dhoom-dhaam se celebrate karte hain, lekin Islam mein naya saal ek roohani moqa hota hai — apne aamaal pe sochne, tauba karne, aur Allah se naya rishta majboot karne ka.

Muharram Qur’an aur Hadith Mein

“Beshak Allah ke nazdeek maheenon ki tadaad 12 hai... inmein se chaar hurmat wale (muqaddas) hain.”
– Surah At-Tawbah 9:36

Muharram un chaar hurmat wale maheenon mein se hai.

“Ramzan ke baad sabse behtareen roza Allah ke maheene — Muharram — ka hai.”
– Sahih Muslim

1st Muharram Ka Ma’ni Kya Hai?

  • Waqt tezi se guzar raha hai.
  • Humare har amal likhe ja rahe hain.
  • Har naya saal humein maut aur aakhirat ke kareeb le ja raha hai.

Is din hum patakhe nahi, tauba aur duaon ke zariye naye saal ka aaghaz karte hain.

Muharram aur Karbala ka Rishta

Imam Hussain (RA), Nabi ﷺ ke nawase, ne 10 Muharram (Ashura) ke din shaadat paayi. Lekin unka safar 1st Muharram se hi shuru hua tha.

Yeh din humein yeh paigham deta hai:

  • Islam haq ke liye khade hone ka deen hai.
  • Insaaf, qurbani, aur himmat Islam ke asal usool hain.
  • Karbala ek zinda paigham hai har daur ke liye.

1st Muharram Ko Kya Karna Chahiye?

1. Apni Zindagi Pe Gaur

Khud se poochhiye: Main kaisa musalmaan hoon? Tauba kijiye aur naye iraade banaiye.

“Ya Allah, is saal ko humare liye aman, imaan, salamati, aur apni raza ke saath laayein.”

2. Naye Iraade

  • Roz Qur’an padhoon
  • Namaz time par padhun
  • Sadaqah doon
  • Akhlaaq behtar karun

3. Roza Rakhna

1st se 10th Muharram ke rozon mein fazilat hai.

“Jo shakhs ek din ka roza Allah ke liye rakhta hai, Allah uske chehre ko dozakh se 70 saal door kar deta hai.”
– Bukhari & Muslim

4. Ahl-e-Bayt Ki Yaad

Imam Hussain (RA) aur unki qurbani yaad karein. Unke mission ke sath wafadaar banein.

Naujawano Ke Liye Paigham

Young Muslims! Is naye saal mein Imam Hussain (RA) se inspire ho kar:

  • Sach ke liye khade ho
  • Zindagi ko maqsad do
  • Islam ka fakhar se naam lo

Naye Saal Ki Dua

“Allahumma adkhilhu ‘alayna bil-amni wal-imaan, was-salaamati wal-Islam, wa ridwaanim-minar-Rahman, wa jiwari minas-shaytaan.”

“Ya Allah! Is saal ko hum par aman, imaan, salamati, Islam aur apni raza ke saath daakhil farma. Humein Shaytaan se bacha.”

Aakhri Baaten

1st Muharram humein yaad dilata hai: “Tumhara waqt keemti hai — ise Allah ke liye use karo.”

Chaliye, is saal ko roohani taur pe behtar banayein: Allah se qurbat, tauba, khidmat aur sachai ke raaste pe chalein.

Ameen.
